COLD Linux 0.7 & 0.8 Notes
Submitted by Jonathan Maltz:
- To configure video, run "xf86config" and use the following settings:
VESA & 16-bit color as the default
- When you run "startx" after configuring X, it won't finish loading (it
will hang at a black screen). Just reset the VM and startx should work
- Sound doesn't work
- Hangs shutting down
Cosiek (the COLD Linux developer) sent in the following info:
- The sound does not work because the kernel does not see the sound card
device at all (lspci). The network works ok as a generic decchip (100mbit).
Linux generally has a very bad support for the Trio series of graphics cards
- it works only with VESA (haven't tried the XiG professional graphics
drivers - maybe they work with S3). COLD Linux does not hang when exiting
from X - it just can't display the frame buffer graphics correctly anymore.
Just give it a Action/Ctrl+Alt+Del and the system will close and reboot
properly.
