Fedora Core 4 Notes
- Colin Barnhorst originally reported the OS as not working, failing with
a kernel panic
- John Carney reported it as working, allocating 256 MB of RAM and
disabling sound
- Ian Richardson reported it as working. Use the LCD Panel option
for the monitor
He also sent that if the screen looks odd with an orange
contrast, boot off of the rescue CD in rescue mode, and delete the bits in
/etc/X11/xorg.conf. When you reboot, Fedora will rebuild the file
- Michael Sherman reported that installation is successful, but on reboot
he receives an "unrecoverable processor error"
- Mark Stockman used a generic monitor and "Thousands of Colors" and it
worked
- Ben Sykes says everything works as long as VPC SP1 is installed
- Nicolas Malbranche reported that the RAM limit is 1 GB - beyond that
there will be a kernel panic
- Doug Haigh reports that you need Virtual PC Service Pack 1 or you won't
get to the "Check install CD" screen
- Ryan added that he needed to set the VHD to a fixed disk or Anaconda
would crash
- Peter Dowley needed to add "nofb" to the boot command in grub.conf, and
xorg.conf needed the correct refresh rate and DefaultDepth dropped from 24
to 16
- Felix submitted the following instructions for various resolutions and
color depths including 24-bit:
1. Install SP1 for Virtual PC
2. Choose "S3 Trio64V2 (generic)" or "VESA driver (generic)" as the display
device when setting up Fedora Core 4
3. Choose a monitor type which best fits your physical monitor, or something
like "Generic CRT Monitor - Monitor 1024*768"
Save the changes of the display settings and restart X server (or simply
restart FC4), and now you can use resolution higher than 800*600, as well as
24bit color depths.
- Patrick Johansson reports that the RAM must be 624 MB or less, or the
machine will not work
