Fedora Core 5 Final Notes
- John Carney originally submitted this OS as working
- An anonymous user reported a successful text-mode HTTP install by
booting from the rescue CD
- Patrick Johansson reported that the machine will not boot with more than
624 MB of RAM allocated
- Marcel Ziswiler said that for optimal perfoamce:
Allocate at least 512MB RAM to the Linux VM. In order to get a resolution
above 1024x768 you will need to use the universal VESA driver instead of the
automatically detected S3 Trio64 one. Only a color depth of thousands of
colors is supported. Make sure you have the Microsoft Virtual PC Service
Pack 1 installed. To improve performance use the -usehostdiskcache
command-line parameter.
- Another anonymous user reports that:
1) The mouse is misdetected as IBM Trackpount. Add kernel option
psmouse.proto=imps resolves problem.
2) Sound not working. Add "modprobe snd-sb16" to /etc/rc.local
- Andrew Huey was able to make this OS work by booting to runlevel 3 and
changing DefaultDepth from 24 to 16 in /etc/X11/xorg.conf
