Mandrake Linux 10 Notes
- Video doesn't work by default (Thanks to an anonymous user)
- Another anonymous user writes:
"I did get it to work, mostly with defaults. When setting up video I used
S3 Trio64 (generic)
4MB/800x600@60Hz/600x600@16bpp and have X running under that"
- Adam Geitgey writes that networking will not be detected automatically.
You need to select the "de2104x" driver, not the "tulip" driver as in
previous Mandrake versions but due to a bug in Mandrake 10, this driver will
not appear in the selection list. To fix this, during the install process
right before you click the button to configure networking, do the following:
Press ctrl-alt-f2 to switch to a new console.
Type "modprobe de2104x" and press enter.
Press ctrl-alt-f7 to switch back to the installer.
Now, when you go to configure your network card, it should already be
detected and appear in the list.
- Adam also added:
If the installer seems to get stuck when installing from the actual cds, use
the "Capture Disc Image" function of Virtual PC to capture the original
Mandrake .iso file images on your hard drive and install from those instead
of installing from the physical cds. That should fix the stalling during
install problems.

Mandrake needs to run with the video card set to 1024*768/800*600 with 8mb
video S3 Trio (generic) in 65000 colors, (no more) booting with X, only
sound is not supported (needs alsa drivers) but runs right (5 of 6 times
I've installed)
